East Fortune 18/19th April - again all was going ok until the next to last race, at this point i was still not 100% fit, it involved three/four bikes in a start line incident, I got a good start when the guy in front chopped across in front of me taking the handle bar from me, from that point on i was a passenger. when i did come to rest the only thing i could think of was for no one to hit me and luckily no bike hit me just another competitor, who was later taken to hospital. Hope he's alright as he was unconscious for a while and a novice.
Knockhill 24th May- I had already committed to working that weekend as I need to fund the race season as no major sponsorship has come forward, so that weekend of racing was canceled in favor of funds!!
Oulton Park 6th June - Now i had been looking forward to this for a number of reasons, It was the track I first went to watch my any major bike race, (Trans-Atlantic trophy) and later my local track to watch club events like the one I'm racing in. Second my brother would be coming to watch me something that i thought would never happen as we had lost touch about 25 years ago... Strange world. Anyway practice was Friday race Saturday. After wobbling round the first practice i slowly manage to learn the circuit, but was still no match for the rest of the field who had been there before, and after the previous rounds all i was looking for was a meeting without a crash. So out in the third session and I'm thinking yea I'm getting the hang of this just as i miss my breaking marker going into Druids and have an excursion through the gravel trap at silly speed, managed to keep it upright and re-joined to empty my leathers and fairing of crap. I had ordered a new set of tyres for this meeting and had already been to make sure they where
there, so when i went back in to get them swapped over and scrubbed in for the race the next day i was to say the least a bit surprised when the guy said he'd sold them, Sorry mate! Now normally when i go away racing there is normally two of us, me of course and the team catering manager/girlfriend Sharon, however on this occasion Sharon had to work Friday and was traveling down after she had finished, that’s over 400 miles what a star, anyway she arrived at nine on Friday evening where we had pasta and then went to the local bar for a coke/cider... Saturday morning we woke to rain... oh great, now normally I’m good in the wet and it would level the field out, or so i thought, Practice/qualifying went ok but didn't want to push too hard and bin it before the race so was near the back. When the race started i got a good start then went backwards due to lack of experience on wets but managed to pick my way through a couple of people before the race was stopped. Now i came around and was stopped at the start finish line and then told to go back and they would re-form the grid in our finish positions. So i went back when we were re-formed i had somehow lost two places... all the work to do again!! Second half of the race a got a better start and this time went round the outside of someone at cascades at this point all i was looking for was a solid finish, which is what i got, until i checked the results i was placed down in 21st, yes i know its not great, but the guy in 20th is the one I’d gone round the outside and beaten in the first half of the race, oh well it was a good weekend, no crashes and caught up with my brother. Looking forward to watching on men and motors 22nd June
Donington Park 24thJuly - We are at Donington for the MotoGP and the race meeting with Thundersport GB. After watching some of the earlier qualifying we knew it was going to be a difficult time with the changing weather conditions. After a lot of thought we decided to go for a dry rear and a wet front. Thank god Andy came down to help out over the weekend it was all go more than usual. Anyway quailifying went ok, but not great, half way through it started to drizzle so i didn't want to push too hard and throw it at the scenery. We only had 25-30 min to seal the deal so, learn track and put a good time in when its strated to rain.. so with all that we finished up down in 34th out of 37.
Well after the qualifying session the only way we could go was forward or crash out... Anyway race day was mixed weather again as you probably saw on TV. So when it came to my race there was only one choice and that was wets as it had now started to rain properly. Lining up on the grid I knew I had to make a good start which I did, going into redgate i had already passed six people then going down to the old hairpin i managed to out brake someone else, it was definatley just go for it!! I had a couple of moments around Scwantz curve due to the tyre being cold on the left side, but we had a good battle with a couple of people and finish in 22nd, not bad but wil do a lot better next time out there. Thanks again to Andy and my catering manager Sharon
